of Wellesley, MA
Four years ago a few regular academic freeloaders (senior town residents who
audit courses at Wellesley College) thought it a good idea to establish an
occasional venue where we could schmooze without disturbing our younger and
prettier classmates. We meet only once a month and at restaurants selected each
month by a different member. We grew rapidly to about a dozen regulars, most of
whom have a New York City connection (childhood or university or career, etc.).
Ten of us range in age from 70 to 80 with two 60-somethings longing to fully
retire and be like the rest of us. We don't think of the monthly gathering as a
club so much as an excuse to spend a few bucks more than usual on lunch with
simpatico non-textmessagers. We travel up to an hour to any restaurant worth the
drive. We tend to prefer better places that are too expensive at dinnertime.
Being too cheap to spend on Red Sox tickets, we may even go to a Pawtucket
baseball game before autumn sets in. We suspect a few of the group of being
closet Republicans but avoid the subject so as not to embarrass them.
If you would like to contact our group e-mail Herb
for more information.
