of Berkeley Springs, WV

Although our postal address is Berkeley Springs, WV and it is listed on most maps as such, the real name of our town is Bath, West Virginia. Situated in the Eastern Panhandle of the Mountain State, Berkeley Springs (Bath) derived its name from the natural mineral springs which are believed by some to possess healing powers. As the seat of Morgan County, we are snuggled nicely between Winchester, Virginia and Hancock, Maryland with just a ten minute drive to the Pennsylvania State Line. Our ROMEO Club was conceived when the wife one of our founding members, Dwan McBee, kept going on about the good time she had with her Red Hat group. Having read the Pickles cartoon strip, Dwan called Dick Byrne and suggested a local Romeo Club. After a few more phone calls, on December 22, 2005 we had our first monthly lunch at the Millstone Restaurant in Berkeley Springs. In addition to Dwan and Dick, the others in attendance were Vaughn Hillgren, John Locke, Frank Kucharski, Jack Carr Will Parker and Al Lipka.
We all agreed we would have no rules, by-laws, officers or dues, however it was decided we would wear (not mandatory) the official "Geezer" uniform of wide red suspenders. Some of us also have had baseball hats embroidered with ROMEO and our first name made up by Vaughn's wife Shirley who runs a sewing shop in town. On January 19, 2006 we had our second meeting with 16 members at Snyder's Road Kill Cafe in Artemis, Pennsylvania. Our membership has grown to 21 members.
