The Runnin Romeo’s
Our Chapter, "The Runnin Romeo's of Albuquerque"
began in May of 2007 with 10 members. Since that time, we have met on the third
Saturday of each month at nine in the morning for breakfast at one of our local
establishments; mainly Jimmy's Cafe. To say the least, the appearance of 10 guys
wearing red hats with the "ROMEO" stencil caused a great deal of
stares and questioning looks
from the patrons of the establishment. While trying
to determine what our chapter should be called, we came across a piece of
driftwood within our 55+ retirement community that was used as a decoration in
front of one of the homes. Having two red eyes already, we placed one of our
hats on it, took its picture, changed the background and walla, our Romeo Logo.
As you can see on the left, we tried everything and at
one point were really
desperate. Gary Hendrickson, our Romeo
coordinator recommended using the port-a-potty, but we all nixed that idea
(didn't go well with breakfast). Since that time, we have expanded our gathering
by four, have obtained a small 1.5 inch gold RoadRunner pin for our caps and
have visited many other establishments within the Albuquerque area. The response
to our visits are always the same and the smiles that we generate enhance our
morning outings. With new Romeo's come new ideas. Come back and visit with us to
see what we're up to. With this crew, I can guarantee it will be unique! To

The group started because they are a very active retired

are a retirement community. We have just about every profession represented with
our senior retired men. We have an author who has written 7 books….. We have a
pilot… We have a retired attorney and doctor. They decided to start a group
because we have the Red Hatters here….. The men want to socialize, eat out,
and maintain sharing stories…..keep their minds active as well as staying
physically active…They play bridge, cribbage, watch movies, listen to music,
laugh and have fun. They will be meeting the last Tuesday of every month. The
